GSAKU-CBANTU Bilateral Symposium held online (14-15 September 2021)

On 14–15 September 2021, the Bilateral Symposium between the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University (GSAKU) and the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University (CBANTU) was held online via Zoom with a total of 43 faculty members and graduate students from both universities in attendance.

Focused on the theme of “Agri-Environmental Policies in Developed and Developing Countries”, the symposium was composed of the faculty session on the first day and the student session on the second day, in which researchers and students from each university alternately delivered their presentations. The symposium opened with welcome addresses by GSAKU’s Vice-Dean Motoki Akitsu (Philosophy of Agricultural Science) and by CBANTU’s Dean Huu-Sheng Lur. Presentations were then delivered by Prof. Chieko Umetsu (Regional Environmental Economics), Prof. Shusuke Matsushita (Natural Resource Economics) and Assoc. prof. Kenta Sakanashi (Philosophy of Agricultural Science) On the next day, eight young researchers and students from both universities gave presentations, which brought lively Q&A and open-minded discussions.

GSAKU and CBANTU have been maintaining a long-term partnership since 2012. In recent years, GSAKU annually holds Summer Course in Taipei, including the latest one held in June 2019. In September 2019, a joint symposium was also held in Taipei with CBANTU. In addition to such exchange, further development of collaboration is anticipated by continuing to hold symposiums similar to the latest one that is focused on specific theme.
