The International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is a global network comprising individuals, universities, governments, institutions, libraries and commercial companies, thousands of whom joined as Individual Members, in addition to a substantial number of Institutional Members and some 50 Member Countries/Regions (https://www.ishs.org). ISHS bestowed the ISHS Fellow Award (https://www.ishs.org/ishs-awards) to a person in recognition of his/her outstanding contribution to horticultural science worldwide.

Prof. Tao is the second awardee from Japan. (Thirty-one renowned scientists have received the award in the world.) The Award Ceremony will be held at the International Horticultural Congress (IHC) in Angers, France, in 2022 (https://www.ihc2022.org). The IHC convenes every four years. An organizing committee, headed by Prof. Tao, has been preparing for the IHC 2026 in Kyoto.
