Northern Thai Local Govt, Univ Delegates Visit GSA for Talks on Cross-sector Collaboration in Agricultural Sciences

A delegation consisted of 40 staff of local governments, universities and other organizations in northern Thailand visited the Graduate School of Agriculture (GSA) on 24 February to learn about the school’s practices in university-industry collaboration in agricultural sciences.

Professors Hiroshi Shimizu and Michihisa Iida and Associate Professor Yuichi Ogawa gave presentations entitled “Plant Factory: New Agricultural Production System”, “Automation and ICT in Agriculture” and “Introduction of BISE’s* research activities and Applications of electromagnetic waves”, respectively. After these talks, GSA Vice Dean Eiji Nawata offered, partly in Thai, an overview of Kyoto University and GSA as well as several academic programs available for international students at GSA.

At the subsequent Q&A session, the delegates asked about practical uses of the research outcomes and direct contributions to the public — farmers in particular. Their interests also included joint efforts of public and private sectors in agricultural research, as well as intellectual property management at Kyoto University.
