CBANTU-GSAKU Bilateral Symposium held in Taipei, Taiwan

On 19–20 September 2019, the Bilateral Symposium between the College of Bio-resources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University (CBANTU) and the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University (GSAKU) was held in Taipei with six faculty members and four graduate students from GSAKU in attendance.

Focused on the theme of “Environmental Hydrology and Water Resources Management”, the symposium was composed of the faculty session on the first day and the student session on the second day, in which researchers and students from each university alternately delivered their presentations.

The symposium opened with welcome addresses by CBANTU’s Vice-Dean Dar-Yuan Lee and GSAKU’s Vice-Dean Motoki Akitsu, followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Kenichiro Kosugi (Erosion Control) from GSAKU side. Presentations were then delivered by Prof. Masayuki Fujihara, Assoc. Prof. Junichiro Takeuchi (both from Water Resources Engineering), Prof. Kimihito Nakamura (Hydrological Environment Engineering) and Prof. Yoshiko Kosugi (Forest Hydrology).

In the student session on the next day, eight students from both universities gave presentations, which brought lively Q&A and open-minded discussions. Following the student session, a brief introduction on NTU and a study visit to NTU’s Hydrotech Research Institute were conducted.

GSAKU and CBANTU have been maintaining a long-term partnership since 2012. In recent years, GSAKU annually holds Summer Course in Taipei, including the one held in 2019. In addition to such exchange, further development of collaboration is anticipated by continuing to hold symposiums similar to the latest one that is focused on specific theme.
