Call for Registration: Joint Class with National Taiwan University

National Taiwan University College of Bioresources and Agriculture (NTU-CBA) and Kyoto University Graduate School of Agriculture (GSA) together run a joint English-taught class via video conferencing, allowing for a simultaneous, interactive learning experience.

The joint class, listed as “C152: Introduction to Foreign Literature on Bio-Systems Engineering” at GSA, is offered for both sides’ third-year undergraduates by CBA associate dean Suming Chen, professor Ping-Lang Yen, GSA international committee chair Naoshi Kondo and associate professor Garry Piller.

Its interactive, flexible nature was best reflected when professor Kondo joined the class at NTU during his visit there in October 2014, and vice versa when professor Chen visited GSA in November.

Such flexibility will again come in handy on 22 December, when professor Kondo will be joining the class from an NTU research forest, following a two-day lecture series by GSA professors (in order of appearance) Kaoru Kitajima, Eiji Nawata, Hisashi Miyagawa, Kondo himself and Fumito Tani.

Students in all fields of agriculture are encouraged to attend the joint class, as it aims primarily to enhance their presentation skills in English and it does not require expert knowledge of bio-systems engineering.

Collaborations with NTU, including the joint class and special lecture series, were featured also in a recent post entitled “Nat’l Ilan U, Taiwan U, GSA Seek Ways to Foster Collaboration with and beyond Student Exchange Agreement” on the GSA website.
